Half of the state’s registered voters expected to cast their ballots BOSTON (WWLP) – Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin is optimistic about expected voter turnout tomorrow, but he believes only around half of the state’s registered voters will cast their ballots. Secretary of State William Galvin expects around 2.3 million Massachusetts voters will head to the polls on Election Day, and they have many decisions to make. Voters will consider four statewide ballot questions, but before they do, Secretary Galvin urges them to read the explanations very carefully. “Right above where they actually cast their ballot, where they’ll mark their ballot, there is a one sentence statement, what does a yes mean, what does a no mean.” One ballot question that has people in western Massachusetts on edge is Question three. 22News visited the Suffolk University Political Research Center to see where voters are leaning when it comes to the state’s gaming law. Polling Director David Paleologos said registered Democrats and women are most likely to favor eliminating casinos. He projects the gaming law will remain intact by 15-20 percent of the vote. “In our most recent polling, even registered Democrats were on the no side and women were pronounced on the no side. So, without those two categories, the yes repeal doesn’t look like it’s going to happen,” said Paleologos. Secretary Galvin believes Hampden County could see a higher-than-usual voter turnout, especially with hotly contested local races and the casino question on the line. Polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
