Halftime Meals At last nights services we took note of the method used to redirect the attention of the Church at Corinth back to the Lord. The Scriptures remind them of what they are waiting for and this truth is what God desires to be used to get this church back on the straight and narrow. Remember this is perhaps the worst church in the New Testament and the majority of the epistle is rebuke and correction of carnal Christianity. 1Cor 1:7-9 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: (8) Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9) God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. The coming of our Lord Jesus Christ The day of our Lord Jesus Christ Zeph 1:1-18 The word of the LORD which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah. (2) I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the LORD. Notice I will the Lord Himself will consume. Zeph 1 (3) I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD. I will the Lord is at work. He consumes and He cuts off. It is the Lord our God Heb 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire. Zeph 1 (4) I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests; (5) And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and that swear by the LORD, and that swear by Malcham; (6) And them that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor enquired for him. (7) Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests. Judgment is coming soon, it is at hand. The worship of anything other than the one True God leads to punishment. Notice it is not even the LORD and Malcham (an Ammonite deity). Our worship belongs to the Lord God Almighty and Him alone. Those He destroys are the sacrifice and the guests; Rev 19:7-21 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. (8) And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. (9) And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. (10) And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. (11) And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. (12) His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. (13) And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. (14) And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. (15) And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. (16) And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. (17) And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; (18) That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. (19) And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. (20) And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. (21) And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh. The fowls eat the flesh of those the Lord Jesus Christ has slain. Zeph 1 (8) And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORDS sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the kings children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel. (9) In the same day also will I punish all those that leap on the threshold, which fill their masters houses with violence and deceit. (10) And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and an howling from the second, and a great crashing from the hills. (11) Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they that bear silver are cut off. (12) And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil. All will be judged, there is nowhere to hide. This is the emphasis of Maktesh. All will be Judged when He returns. He has done good in His work on the Cross of Calvary and He will do the work of Wrath as well. God is Love and Gracious, but you better believe He is a God of Judgment, Jealousy and Wrath as well. He is Holy and Righteous and demands Righteousness and this is only found through the Blood of Christ for you and I. We have come to this point that we see God as inactive and we need our eyes open quickly. He is coming soon and it looks nothing like His first coming. Zeph 1 (13) Therefore their goods shall become a booty, and their houses a desolation: they shall also build houses, but not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but not drink the wine thereof. (14) The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. Works do not matter, they are pointless. They neglect so great a salvation and they have their reward. It is the great day of the Lord and it is near, get ready. For the church at Corinth stop focusing on everything but the great work of the Gospel for the time is short and we must work till Jesus Comes. Dont you see Christian it is right before us and we must get to work right now. Forget about the gifts and who has been given what. Just Preach the Gospel and use what God has given you and be content with the spreading of the message of the greatest work ever accomplished, the Atonement. The mighty man is no weak fellow. Your works and accomplishments are meaningless in that day and your physical strength or position of authority is meaningless as well. If you neglect the salvation offered you freely you are asking for what is coming. 2Thess 1:7-9 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, (8) In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: (9) Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; Zeph 1 (15) That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, This is the wrath of the same Jesus Christ the Lord born in the manger that He will pour out when He returns. Eph 2:1-6 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; (2) Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: (3) Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. (4) But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, (5) Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) (6) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: I was by nature a child of wrath (condemned already read all of John chapter 3, dont stop at verse 16) when I was born in the image of my father Adam. This was my end, BUT GOD you see in verse four, read and believe please. This the fire of His wrath awaits you if you have not confessed with you mouth and believed in your heart that The Lord (God) Jesus (Man) Christ (promised Messiah) died in your place on the Cross of Calvary for your sins and was buried and rose again the third day, for your Atonement. The fire is coming and it is eternal and everlasting even as He is, for it is His fire. Zeph 1 (16) A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers. (17) And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung. (18) Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORDS wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land. The plain English of the correct text is just as clear as it gets. Speaks for itself. Perhaps if the Church at Corinth kept this truth in mind they would put away the petty carnality and serve God in a manner that was pleasing unto Him and perhaps if we did the same we would not look so much like them. We have not even scratched the surface concerning a Biblical study of the Day of the Lord, it is perhaps the most discussed topic or event in the Bible (search the scriptures before you get mad about that statement). We have a long way to go with our studies and we will branch off concerning the details of the events presented as we continue to move through the epistle of First Corinthians. Will you join us? You can be born again; 1Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. The repentance and faith He desires for you to have are given through the words on the pages of His BOOK. If you are saved He desires for you to serve.
