Happy Birthday, Carolyn McCrone! Carolyn is a talented flute player that I met while working at a small music program a few years back. Shes now the fifth person from this school to be featured in this #BirthdayQuest, but only the second non-conductor (the other is also a fantastic Woodwind player!) Carolyn is a delight to work with- shes fun, has a great spirit, and is a sensitive musician. She grew quite a bit during the year I was at this program, and she was a crucial member of the orchestra. These days, she is doing grad work in the Boston area! The main idea for Carolyns #BirthdayQuest theme was immediate- its an orchestral flute solo she played for me, and that I will always identify with her. Interestingly, the first two notes of this solo match the first two letters of her name, so I decided to look at her name through all of my Musical Alphabet Codes. Well, the material generated by both her first and last names (via my MAC#2) had a number of parallels with this orchestral solo. So, the opening melody comes from her first name, the melody of the second phrase quotes the solo, and the final phrase comes from her last name. As usual, the musical quote is played in its original key, but with different rhythms and surrounding harmonies. Check the bottom of the info section on the YouTube page to see what quote I used.
