Happy Curio Friday! Without a doubt one of the most unusual items in Wisconsin Historical Society collections is Governor Doyles Festivus pole (2007.84.1A-C). Festivus was made popular by a 1997 episode of Seinfeld. The Wagner Company of Milwaukee produces the poles and gave one to then Governor Jim Doyle, a fan of Seinfeld. The pole was displayed in the Executive Mansion in 2005 and was donated to the Wisconsin Historical Museum in 2007. Youre not too late to celebrate your own 2014 Festivus! If you are so inclined, Airing of Grievances and Feats of Strength should occur around your unadorned pole on December 23rd.
