Happy First Sunday of Advent to all! Please enjoy this cracking arrangement of Mary Did You Know courtesy of Pentatonix. Also, I was recently reminded of the etymology of advent which as a bit of a linguaphile, I found rather satisfying. It derives from the Latin word advenire meaning to arrive which in itself is a composite of the prefix ad, meaning to from which we get words such as adjoining, address and advance, and the verb Venire meaning to come, the most famous example of which is probably veni, vidi, vici- I came, I saw, I conquered originally attributed to Julius Ceasar but more recently identified as some of Catherine Tates first conversation with a Roman citizen in series 4 of Doctor Who (the episode with Peter Capaldi NOT playing the doctor!).
