Happy Friday Folks! CHORES With spring races in full-swing, dont forget to email us to discuss racing and pacing strategies! WEEK’S RESULTS Some big personal bests fell this past weekend for M2Mers: Vicar Li ran 2:58:06 at the BMO Vancouver marathon in rainy and windy conditions. This run was a 14min PB for Vicar. Huge congrats to him for a successful marathon buildup and race! Making his track debut of the season, Garret De Jong joined the sub 15min 5km club. Running a time of 14:58 to place 4th overall at the London Distance Twilight Series, De Jong lowered his personal best and looks poised for a strong showing at the Ottawa Race Weekend 10km. Congrats to both runners for breaking two very tough barriers! In non-running related results, Dylan may have had the biggest win over the past month, as he got married! Big Congrats Dylan! RUNNING NEWS Although it hasnt really felt like summer for many of our M2Mrs, the summer track season began with a number of big results this past weekend. Stateside, one of the fastest distance running track events took place last Sunday at Stanford University. Former NCAA stars Molly Huddle and Sally Kipyego ran very fast times in the 10km. Kipyego a Texas Tech graduate, and 2012 Olympic Silver medal took the win in a time of 30:42, while former Notre Dame standout Molly Huddle ran the 2nd fastest time in American history crossing the line in 30:47. On the mens side, in the 5km, a staggering number of American men ran sub 13:10. Back in the late 90s and early 2000s only 2 men in America had ran faster than 13:10, however, this past Sunday, 5 men did it in one race. In the mens 10km, Canadian Cam Levins ran a strong 27:36 to place 2nd overall. RECOMMENDED LINK - The Chairman of the Boards Yet another link forwarded to us from marathon runner Warren Isfan. This one concerns itself with arguably the greatest indoor miler in history, Irishman Eamonn Coghlan. Coghlan was an incredible runner, and this interview is a fun and interesting read. In a world where athletes spend thousands of dollars on the latest gadgets and training tools, a look back at Coghlans era, is a refreshing one: deadspin/how-i-broke-the-indoor-mile-record-an-interview-with-a-1525556046 TRAINING TIP - Watch some races Although this one does seem pretty obvious, it is hard to underestimate the value of actually watching a race. In the lead up to spring/summer road race season, we know many of you have lofty goals, and one thing that can certainly help in your pursuit of those goals, is watching race videos. Watching races, whether it be on the track, the road, or cross-country can not only help you understand how some of the best racers approach a competition, but it can also give you the valuable tool of perspective. Watching numerous races, can help in giving you an understanding of how a race will unfold, and how you look in the race. This is something that is invaluable when you are hurting your most, or you are trying to catch that one runner in front of you. Furthermore, watching race videos, particularly of elite runners, can give you a better understanding of body position and technique. Stride Smooth, -- Dylan & Mike Mile2Marathon Coaching
