Happy Hallowed Koppenbergcross. Tomorrow marks the 2013 edition of #Koppenbergcross. In between trick-or-treaters this evening, be sure to watch the 2012 edition in full. (Minute 2:00 onwards features some great footage of retro-cyclocross with hay bale barriers). youtube/watch?v=sqQqtLgaitU Cyclo-cross Koppenberg is held annually in the East Flanders town of Oudenaarde. The race features the cobbled Koppenberg climb from the #RondeVanVlaanderen. As a non-series race, Cyclo-cross Koppenberg occupies the status of classic or monument much in the way road cycling appreciates Paris-Roubaix. The fans show up in force reaching 15,000 in number. The race begins with an opening sprint on pavement (12:00). Racers then fly onto the grass at full-speed by way of sharp left-hand turn. From there riders begin their ascent up the berg, making their way onto the cobbles (22:00) and then finally onto an incredibly steep grassy knoll where Nys prefers to attack (32:00). One of the more underrated aspects of the course, in our opinion, is the super-rad descent from the top of the berg. Its technical, fast, and features lots of turns. #SvenNys holds the record of most wins with 9 (of which he won a whopping 7-in-a-row from 2004-2010). In 2011, #KevinPauwels upset Svens 8th consecutive victory with a commanding performance on the slopes of the Koppenberg. The following year, Sven Nys exacted his revenge.
