Happy New Year! Hope your year is off to a fantastic start! We wanted you to know that while the club seemed to have gone south for the winter, we are planning some great things to kick off the new year. First up is a “Big Semester” launch party. The birding club wants to challenge you all to a birding competition that will run the whole semester. We’ll explain the rules, and head out to look at local waterfowl (expect native swans, large rafts of diving ducks, etc) on Friday, Jan 9th at 2pm. Meet in the Dana building commons where we will explain the “big semester” challenge and then plan on heading out for some birding by 3pm. Other Upcoming activities: Feb 6th -8th - U.P Birding Adventure! Join us for a Weekend getaway to the great north. Snowy Owls along with a number of other Boreal bird species head to the U.P. to spend the winter. Good birds, food, and fun will be had on this trip. Look for more details coming your way soon! Mid March - Birding, Citizen Science and Ecological Research. We plan on bringing in one of Michigan’s top birders to talk about his birding experiences along with how the birding community has contributed to a wealth of citizen science data that is being used to further conservation and bird behavior research.
