Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Did you know... There’s a very good reason that St. Patrick’s Day is so widely celebrated outside of Ireland itself. An enormous number of people around the world can claim Irish heritage and have some affinity for Irish culture. While there were an estimated 6.4 million people living in Ireland in 2011, researchers estimate that there may be as many as 80 to 100 million people of Irish descent living elsewhere around the world. This group is sometimes called the “Irish Diaspora” and it’s anywhere from 10 to 15 times as large as the Irish population! But you don’t have to be Irish to enjoy this holiday and “the wearing of the green”!
