Happy Sunday everyone! As I have many new friends since last year, I would just like to clarify why I do not celebrate Christmas. Christmas has nothing to do with Jesus and is not found in the Bible. The nativity is of course found in the Bible, but as Jesus was born in September, again His birth has nothing to do with Christmas. So far from “Keeping Christ in Christmas,” we should be trying to Keep Christ out of Christmas! The Christian festival was just a change of name from the Roman festival called Saturnalia. The Roman Emperor Constantine wanted to appease the Christians when they complained about the pagan festival and decided to intertwine Christianity with Saturnalia. Saturnalia and Christmas have so many similarities. The giving of gifts, over-eating and drunkenness, paying homage to a tree and the lighting of candles. Sticking the baby Jesus in their somewhere does not make it Christian. I will be ridiculed and/or ignored and maybe even “unfriended” by this statement but I just want my new friends to know why I do not celebrate Christmas! 2 Corinthians 6:17 – “Therefore Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord.
