Happy Teachers Day A tribute to all my Teachers, Friends and Well wishers… [My Ph.D. Thesis acknowledgements, 12-12-2012] A Ph.D. thesis is an arduous journey through a hill which involves its share of Charm, Adventure and Pain through the various topsy – turvy curves. And when one reaches the pinnacle of success, the Joy and Bliss at that moment overwhelmed every other emotion. This project is similar to a Yagna (Hawan) where different “souls” put their “Aahuti”(efforts) for the Large benefit of some-one “Special”. I take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped in the completion of this project. We arrive on this earth because of our parents and on the stage of the world, because of our teachers. This study is an outgrowth of a valuable, continuous and systematic guidance of my supervisor, Dr. V. N. Sharma Emeritus Professor & former Director, Biotechnology Programme, MIET. Over the past decade, he has been a pillar of strength and support for me in his different roles as my teacher, philosopher, guide and mentor. I am extremely grateful for his enlightening experience in form of valuable suggestions and constructive criticism during the course of my investigation and preparation of this project report. I thank Shri Vishnu Saran, Chairman, MIET Group of Institutions, and Shri Gaurav Agarwal, Vice-chairman, MIET Group of Institutions, for encouraging and allowing me to complete this project in MIET. I thank Director, BITS, Pilani, for providing me an opportunity to study again with my alma mater. I also thank Dean, ARD (earlier Dean, R & C), BITS, Pilani, for giving technical advice through the various phases of my Ph.D. thesis, since its registration. I am highly thankful to Prof. A. Subrahmanyam, former Head, Department of Biotechnology (UG), MIET, for introducing me with the topic of research and motivating me always with a cheerful smile to complete this project at earliest. I thank Prof. N. R. Kalla, former Head, Department of Biotechnology (PG), MIET, for getting me through the various hurdles arose during the project and for helping me in obtaining necessary approvals pertaining to this project. My heartfelt thanks to my former classmate – cum colleague – cum friend, Dr. Shalu Agarwal, (with whom I initiated my Ph.D. thesis) for her support and morale boosting words during different phases of this project. During the course of our journey through life – we sometimes met persons of personal value who increases the joy of journey and shares the pain equally. I am lucky to met and have the support and liking of three persons, whom I would call my dear brothers – Dr. Ajay Singh (Badey Bhaiya), Dr. Nitin Garg (Bhai) and Mr. Vaibhav Sharma (Chotey Bhaiya). Dr. Ajay Singh, Faculty in the Department of Business Studies & Management, MIET has been a great source of inspiration & motivation (acting both – as my Ideal and Idol) and helped me in finding ways during several hardships in the tenure of this project. Dr. Nitin Garg, Faculty in the DBT-MIET, has been a big support at every hurdle during this project and I’m grateful for his constant meaningful criticism which helped me stay focus on the path of my Ph.D. thesis and complete it at earliest. Mr. Vaibhav Sharma, Faculty in the DBT-MIET, has been the one who shows me light by opening the windows, whenever the doors were shut and helped in solving the daily nitty – gritties during the experimentation part. I owe him a lot during the crucial phases of this project. I am highly thankful to all the three for acting as pillars of my support and strength during the course of this project. I wish to express thanks to my former colleagues and lifetime friends – Mr. Dinabandhu Patra, Dr. Reema Varshney and others (my core group of kohinoor’s) for their everlasting wishes and emotional support. I thank Dr. Ashima Kapoor, Mrs. Suman Lata, Dr. Anita Rawat, Dr. Pankaj Tyagi, Dr. Vivek Srivastava, Mr. Sandeep Sirohi and all other faculty members of my department (DBT-MIET) for their support and encouragement during this project. I specially thank Mr. Ashish Katyal, my colleague – cum student from DBT-MIET who in all his humility helped me all the time during the last phase of this project with his 3G efforts. I also thank Dr. Ravikant Singh, my former colleague at DBT-MIET for inspiring me with his grit and determination in achieving his path breaking Ph.D. I thank from MIET, especially Mr. Lokesh Chandra Gupta (Sir), Head, Department of Chemical Engineering and Mr. Arvind Pandey (Ji), Faculty, Department of Electronics & Communication for their encouraging words mixed with caution which helped me to always stay focus on my path and thus expediting this project. I also thank Dr. Shashi Singh (Bhabhi Ji,), Faculty, Department of Education, MIET for motivating me with her words and hand made delicacies, during the course of this project. Thanks are also due to Dr. Divya Srivastava, Faculty, Department of Chemical Engineering, and Mr. Masood Anzar, Faculty, Department of Electronics Engineering, MIET, for their help in data analysis. A special thanks to all my bus mates of Route No. 13 who have encouraged me every day, semester after semester for completing this project. Especially I would like to mention the names of Mr. Mohd. Danish, Former Head, Department of Chemical Engineering, MIET, Ms. Niharika Verma, & Mr. Girish Tyagi, Faculty, Department of Chemical Engineering, Ms. Aradhana Chauhan, Faculty, Department of Applied Science, Ms Divya Sharma, Faculty, Department of Electronics Engineering and Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Coordinator, Department of Education, MIET. A big thanks to all my loving students (my genes) for having their faith in my teachings & philosophy, which charged me to worked harder for attainment of my goals during this project. I humbly thanks to our family mentor and guide Mr. Ramesh Kumar Sharma (Bhagat Ji) and his wife, Mrs. Neelam Sharma (Aunty Ji) for giving me direction and their blessings to complete this project. I owe my ‘values’, ‘virtue’ and ‘core strength of beliefs’ to all my family members who have supported me whole heartedly with their ‘love’, ‘care’ and ‘motivation’ before and throughout the duration of this project. God is omnipresent and in my views, it is present on this earth in the form of “Parents”. I thank my revered parents – (Mother & Father) for their endless-love and countless-blessings, which helped me to overcome the obstacles that arose during the course of this project. I thank my beloved wife – Reena for being my true companion always and for motivating me to pursue my dreams with great zeal. I thank my dear brother – Vijay for being always there with me as a pillar of support in all forms. Apart from parents, ‘children’ are another form in which god is present on this earth. I am blessed with two loving kids – Arvin & Aditya during the course of this project. Their ‘pious smile’ and ‘naughty acts’ energized me all the time and helped me to stay cheerful during several hardships. Most importantly, I thank the ever pervading, omnipresent, super-soul {The God}, – who has provided me the ‘strength’ and ‘courage’ to initiate this project, sustain(ed) it, even in the darkest of hours and achieving the feat, for which I was incapable off, earlier. Finally, I thank all those persons whose names have not been mentioned above but whom have helped me directly or indirectly in completion of this project. Ajay Kumar Sharma (Aks) [12-12-2012]
