Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!! Today I am thankful for so many extraordinary blessings it is hard to choose just one!! After considerable thought and prayer I have chosen Arlo Guthries poignant, funny, 1960s anti-war anthem Alices Restaurant! Many of you I am sure know the song and have probably have enjoyed it on Thanksgiving day. Every year I play the song because the story is set on Thanksgiving. It really doesnt have much to do with the holiday but it has become part of our tradition. We laugh a lot, dance around, sing off key (well in this house I am the only who does that), and really enjoy the song. It is also a serious song that reminds us that war is a terrible thing and that some 40 plus years after Arlo wrote the words war is still so much a part of our lives. So in some silly, funny way it is also our prayer that war and the absurdity of violence become part of the past and no longer part of our present. Here is the link. I am usually a optimistic, positive person but intentionally acknowledging my blessing and being grateful has really help me experience the last ten days in a new way. I have also received so much feedback that it has really help others. So I have decided to keep going. Maybe not every day but at least once a week I will post what I am thankful for.
