Happy Thursday friends~ Did you know on this day (Dec. 18) two (at least) memorable entertainment events occurred? The first was in 1961, when the Tokens scored a #1 pop hit with The Lions Sleeps Tonight. However, the true originators of the song, Solomon Linda and the Evening Birds - a group of Zulu singers and dancers from South Africa, only received a pittance of profits the song brought in, according to HISTORY. The other event, which occurred in 1968, was the premiere of the musical film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Although the film starred Dick Van Dyke, the character that stole the show was Chitty Chitty, the flying car itself. The car was based on three actual cars which were owned and raced by a British count, reports History.
