Happy first day of Autumn! This will be fitting ;) A poem written by my grandfather, Charles H. Cowan in his book published in 1960 entitled Piquant Poems : Autumn . . . . . Theres a gladness comes with Autumn When the summer heat is gone, And the brown leaves start to falling Browning out the emerald lawn. Its a gladness mixed with sadness, For the fleeting summer days Were a time of joyous living As per natures charming ways. Yet, the cool soft breezes whisper Tales of better days to come, When the crop is shucked or siloed, And the cows from pasture home. Then the lengthening coolish evenings Are a time for popping corn, When the rooster ends your slumber Somewhat later in the morn. Its a time for relaxation Like the evening time of day Autumn is the summers twilight-- Winter--night-- is on the way. Its the season of fruition, Natures time of middle age. And its pay day time in Autumn When the farmer gets his wage. And the glorious Autumn season Is the ripest time of all, When the fodders in the silo And the brown leaves start to fall.
