Happy new year to you all. The beginning of a new year marks the beginning of new opportunities, for individuals, communities and for countries. It’s also a time for reflection on the year that’s past. Many of us will be facing the new year with the same feelings of anxiousness as we did this time last year. A fragile economy, people struggling to make ends meet and the promise of continued cuts to our public services hardly make us look to the future with optimism. But we are not powerless. In 2015 we, the people of Wales, can shape events rather than allow events to shape us. At the general election – now just weeks away – Wales can speak with one voice. Wales can call time on the austerity agenda that has proven an economic and social failure. Leanne Wales can insist that books are balanced by creating jobs, investing in communities and rebuilding the economy – not dismantling it. Wales can ensure its needs and hopes are firmly on the agenda. Wales can do all this and more, but only if we make the conscious decision together, that we will not be silenced. 2015 can be a new period of optimism, of hope. It can be a year that we’ll look back on as Wales’ year. A year where our country emerged confidently from the shadows and found its voice. You can make that happen.
