Harry Potter’s a lot darker than people think. People think - TopicsExpress

Harry Potter’s a lot darker than people think. People think “oh, it’s a kid series”, but really, it’s so dark. You don’t realize it until you read it again when you’re older. Harry’s an orphan; his parents were killed during war. Lord Voldemort is the equivalent of Hitler, and is basically trying to commit genocide. The whole series is about discrimination, war, corruption, and it talks about what happens when a group of people start believing that they’re superior. There’s also the fact that death eaters casually torture people - Frank and Alice were tortured to insanity. Students were tortured by professors. A government authorized teacher was torturing students by carving words onto their hands. The wizarding world families have slaves. There are people like Remus kicked out of society and can’t get jobs because of things they can’t even control. There are teenagers fighting in war, and children losing parents. The corruption is so bad that innocents can be sent to prison. A headmaster of a wizarding school sent a child to live in an abusive household, and did nothing about it. All for the sake of making sure that the child grows up like a pig for slaughter for the prophesy, and becomes the perfect savior. Harry Potter is really dark, and definitely not just a children’s story. It should not be dismissed as such. It may be intended for a younger audience, but it definitely taught me a lot more than some other books. ~ Cassiopeia
