Has anybody here, seen my old friend Rob Can you tell me where hes gone? He loved a lot of people, but it seems the good, they die young But I just looked around and hes gone. ***Adapted from the song “Abraham, Martin, and John” a 1968 song written by Dick Holler and first recorded by Dion. Our city, our world, and the body of Christ at large lost a great man recently. A man who first lived God’s word, then taught it to his sheep. A man who was a true ambassador of Christ. Our world weeps because Pastor Robert M. Brunson is no longer here physically, yet Heaven rejoices, because this great man of God is now home with Jesus, having heard the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” I know Pastor Rob’s family and friends have many wonderful memories of him, but as more of an outsider, I will never forget how he welcomed me to church, treated me like a child of God, helped me when I was in need, and counseled me when I needed a sense of direction. His wife, Pastor Elicia and their children and extended family all walk in love and are some of the kindest people you will ever meet. Pastor Rob didn’t merely talk about God…he walked the walk and lived a Godly life. He was a role model for all Christians, young and old alike. My regret is that I never got to tell him how much of a blessing he was to my life. Don’t weep for Pastor Rob, weep for this sin-cursed world, who has lost an example of Jesus personified. Soft spoken, yet strong, passionate about his beliefs, yet humble, Pastor Rob was one in a million. He was in the world, not of it. There aren’t many men like him left. In a world where ministers are giving license various forms of immoral conduct or living in sin themselves, Pastor Rob stood on Biblical principles. If you wanted to know what living a Christian life was about, all you had to do was look at Pastor Rob and his family. Now that Pastor Rob is gone, what are we to do? The world is a little less kind because he is no longer here. Nina Simone asked this question in a song dedicated to the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr in 1968, and it is apropos to the life and memory of Pastor Rob in 2014. “…What’s gonna happen, now that the King of Love is dead?” Pastor Rob was a true king of love, and like any great king, he leaves behind a legacy in his family, friends, church members, and the thousand he prayed for and with. We have an opportunity to grab his golden baton, and carry on in that great race to glory and in seeking and saving that which is lost. Every day we can strive to live according to the example he set. Don’t weep for Pastor Rob, he is all right. Carry on! Fight the good fight! Show Jesus to the world, and when our time on Earth is done, we will see Pastor Rob again with that smile and ready hug and handshake, say “Welcome Home!”
