Surfing the internet, I found an old issue of TV Week magazine and I dug up almost forgotten stories about Simon Baker, who went by the name of Simon Denny at the time because he had believed for a long period of time that Tom Denny, his mothers second husband, was his biological father. In 1993, Simon Denny won a Logie Award in the category Most Popular New Talent for playing the part of Sam Farrell (a young cop in love with Amy Preston, a nurse played by his real-life girlfriend and future wife Rebecca Rigg) in the popular Australian TV show E Street. During the award ceremony, the entire cast and crew found out that E Street wont be renewed for another season, so it was a bittersweet triumph for our prince of soap opera. But Simon (23) and Rebecca (25) still had reasons to celebrate because she was pregnant with their first child: Stella Breeze. Simon Denny: What concerns me about all this is almost 200 people are going to be out of work and that is pretty daunting. The axing is also disturbing from a personal point of view. One minute Im winning this award and being placed into a star category, but in ten weeks time Im going to be unemployed. Im very excited about becoming a father.
