Have a happy Christmas and great New Year everyone and a big thank you from the committee for a successful first semester for our SEG chapter. Its great to see so many new faces get involved and thank you to all the staff whove been so supportive of our chapter. Next semester we have some more fantastic events: 4th/5th January: Kendra Johnson Visit Primarily for those going to Vancouver Roundup but open to all. A chance to meet the chair of roundup and get some great advice on how to approach potential employers and what you can do to make yourself more employable. Sunday 4th will be an informal social at the pub in the evening and Monday the 5th will be a series of workshops and networking sessions. 14th/15th February: National History Trip A weekend trip down to London and a chance to see the museums special collections of ores and minerals. The samples are specifically picked to enhance and support the field trips and modules on the minerals pathway. 23rd February: Howard Bills of Toro Gold A talk about working in mining in Africa. (Title not yet confirmed) 1st March: Welsh Goldfields Trip A one day trip to the historic Clogau and Gwynfynydd gold mines in North Wales. The trip is designed to supplement the first year Gold and Precious Metals module and has a special first year (cash!) prize for the best field notebook sponsored by SRK. 16th March: AGM of the Leeds Student Chapter of SEG The final meeting of SEG for the 2014-15 academic year. Well decide the new committee and give some great advice on employability. Therell also be guest speakers from industry. Cheers all, Matt C. Chapter President
