Have to get off my chest...ignore if you would like....playing - TopicsExpress

Have to get off my chest...ignore if you would like....playing golf tonight at Indiana Oaks Golf Club....I saw three high school golfers playing out in the snow...thank goodness I got to hole 6 before they did, or they would have found all my colored golf balls...two of the golfers were the same golfers that gave me inspiration and hope in our youth last year...you see, they were one of the 17 golfers that played to greens at the Muni last year when they werent suppose to..I remember one night when I was coming home to change clothes to play to my bicycle flags, they were teeing off on #1 at the Muni...it was cold...probably 35 to 40 degrees. By the time I got back to the course, it was steadily raining. They could have stopped on hole 7, but they kept going. I actually thought about quitting after 4 holes, but they inspired me to play my nine. How can you discourage that desire or spirit? Sure, I have could have turned them in for playing on the greens and part of playing golf is respecting the golf course, however, I knew in my heart and mind that they werent causing any damage. I also knew that if any high school golfer had the same desire to play at Rochester, Wabash, or North Manchester, they could have played on their greens. I can also compare this to my worst feeling in my gut on March 10th at the Muni. The greens were not only closed, but the entire course was closed. One high school golfer was turned away from simply hitting shags. By the way, from past experience, he wouldnt have been turned away. In fact, since the course was basically empty, the Pro would have gone out and worked with him. I drove the golf course with my cart and I didnt see it any worse than in the past. I went in to share my concerns with the Pro. While I was in the Pro Shop, I witnessed the saddest thing I have ever seen I golf, beside Sergio spitting in a golf cup and saying it was no big deal. Two more high school golfers came in and had to be turned away. In expressing my opinion in the clubhouse, I was asked, do you think you could be playing Crooked Stick today? I left the Pro Shop and drove 8 miles down the road and played Leaning Tree Golf Course...which was where the first high school golfer went and practiced.
