Have you ever noticed how the philosophical things that mothers - TopicsExpress

Have you ever noticed how the philosophical things that mothers say are often not understood in childhood yet make absolute sense later on in life? I remember the day I sat and ate my cereal at the dining room table and asked mother dearest whether or not Id have a wife as white as milk. You see, boys and girls- my mother, to this day looks years younger than she is and according to the Oedipus Myth- men will involuntarily seek out women like their mothers and girls will seek men like their fathers. I thus asked mum if I too will seek a bride as white as milk- forgetting that mums beauty isnt due to her complexion but rather her features and healthy diet. Her suppers, unlike me, do not involve multiple curries and oil laden foods. She likes that crap that rabbits eat. Yugh, right? I will never forget her response: Shut up and eat your Rice Krispies! Back then, I believed her retort had something to do with me getting late for school, now though, I realise the wisdom in her words. Coco Pops was my favourite at the time. It didnt need as much sugar and was quite delicious even without any milk at all. Yes, it was darker in complexion and wasnt all that attractive based on Indian standards of fair being beautiful. However, have you ever heard the phrase: The darker the berry, the sweeter the fruit? Anyway this is puffed rice and has no comparison to berries. Ive come to realise that the fairer version of the same brand needed a complement of sugar and milk to be worth eating. The darker version did not. And so realisation occurred that if youre willing to get a wife as white as milk then she may just make you snap, crackle and pop. Youre not gonna get that type of shit from Coco Pops. Im not saying that all fair maidens are full of air and nothing else- what Im saying is that one should check the content beyond the exterior. My mum is a genius. If it wasnt for her, Rice Krispies wouldnt have been as philosophical at all.
