Having been a part of the Burke County Sheriff’s Office for the - TopicsExpress

Having been a part of the Burke County Sheriff’s Office for the past 36 years I look forward to continuing to serve as your Sheriff. Beginning as a patrol officer in 1977, I had advanced through every rank of the Office, when I stepped away as a full time officer in 1986, to begin by career with the US Probation Office. As with the Sheriff’s Office, I advanced through every rank of the U.S. Probation Office ending with my final appointment as Chief of the Eastern District of Virginia. As one of the 94 chiefs in the nation, I was fortunate to benefit from some of the best national leadership training and administrative experience available. Each promotion added to my leadership skills and expanded my understanding of the complex, real world challenges that contemporary law enforcement organizations must overcome to be successful today. Throughout all my experiences, my passion for the Burke County Sheriff’s Office never lessened and after retirement from the federal government, I excitedly returned to local law enforcement where my heart truly was and still is. For the past 38 years, my leadership philosophy of doing what is right has only grown stronger and my passion to pursue professionalism and integrity will always be present. My goal is to continue building an effective and efficient sheriff’s office that everyone can have trust and confidence in. With your prayers and support, together, we can continue building a Sheriff’s Office all Burke County Citizens deserve. Thank you, Steve E. Whisenant Burke County Sheriff
