Having grown up on farms, with brothers and male cousins, there - TopicsExpress

Having grown up on farms, with brothers and male cousins, there was almost never a time when I did anything like a girl. I never understood what the big deal was, until I got older. The further I get into my career, the more I understand our stereotypes and culture, the more I understand WHY this is a bad thing, and how it raises its ugly head for women and girls. Women ARE paid less than men for the same jobs, unless we fight for it like a man. I often get annoyed, particularly on the soccer field, when comments are made about something being done well for a girl, or like a girl. What the hell does that mean? Im tough as nails, and always have been. My life has forced me to be this way. But Im proud of my gender, and I work very hard to make sure my sons think twice when they start to think this way. I will do what I can to make sure my granddaughters dont experience that drop in self-esteem our society creates. Because girl or boy... we are all worthwhile.
