He was very, very tired. His body had worn itself out. He fought hard to stay here with his family. He didnt want to leave his best friend, soul mate, and wife of nearly 66 years. In less than 2 weeks, he would have turned 84, on October 29. God came and took him home yesterday morning. Daddy went to sleep, for a long-awaited rest. Ill never forget how peaceful he looked, and content. I love you, Daddy, and I hope you get to go fishing really soon, are never cold again, and can be outside as much as you want. I hope there is a big garage, just for you, that you can junk up with all the treasures you find. I hope you go bowling with Mr. Short and work on that hook. Well keep an eye on the Cowboys for you and I might even cheer for them. Im going to miss your sneezes, that scare the daylights out of me. Youve been the best Dad anybody could ever want. You were my protector at a time when I really needed it. Your grandchildren will continue to love you so much. You have left them many great stories to tell, from reading The Three Bears, to dressing up as the Cowardly Lion, one year, and Cinderellas mean step-mother, the next on Halloween. You also recorded practically every moment you could, to give all of us hours and hours of laughter. Little Carter will certainly know what a character his great-grandfather was. Well be thinking about you all the time. We may have lost our hero on earth, but Heaven has gained one ornery angel!
