Healthy Eating Tip of the day- Vary your vegetables- 1. Find fast ways to cook the vegetables- cook them in the microwave or steam them. 2. Get ahead of the game- when you have spare time cut up veggies for use in wraps or salads. 3. Choose vegetables that are rich in color- Brighten your plate with red,orange or dark green vegetables. They are rich in vitamins and minerals. Also, try acorn squash, cherry tomatoes, sweet potatoes and collard greens. They taste good and are good for you. 4. Check the freezer isle- The vegetables are quick to make and just as nutritious as fresh. Try adding frozen corn, peas, green beans, spinach or sugar snap peas to some favorite dishes or eat them as side dishes. 5. Stock up on vegetables- Canned vegetables are a great addition to any dish. So, keep on hand canned tomatoes, kidney beans, garbanzo beans, mushrooms and beets. Pick the labels that say low sodium, reduced sodium or no salt added.Buying your canned foods that way gives you the control as to how much salt you add. 6. Make your garden salad colorful- Brighten your salad by adding colorful vegetables such as black beans, sliced red bell peppers, shredded radishes, chopped red cabbage or watercress.
