Hearty evening salutations once again. The shrine of the Oracle at Delphi in Greece was the most sacred site in the Ancient World: everyone from farmers, merchants and soldiers, to ambassadors, administrators, envoys and the nobility traveled to Delphi to have their futures divined and their fortunes told by the successive Oracles (Priestesses of Apollo). A simple inscription, inscribed over the entrance to Delphi greeted every weary traveler as they reach the site: KNOW THYSELF. The implication being, that the beginning of all Earthly wisdom lay within -- and before looking outwards, one had to first look inwards.
