Heather Lani Pfotenhauer/ Wimmer was a close friend I met in the fifth grade, she was three years younger than me. We maintained our friendship past high school and between education, careers, and families we drifted and eventually just lost contact in 1980 after I lost my phone book during my move. Please take a moment to read about this lovely soul that brain cancer has taken away from us. I know this was five years ago but I just found out and it has hit me very hard. Heather Wimmer, director of Stanford athletics investment fund, dead at 47 Heather, who worked for Stanford Athletics as executive director of the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation Investment Fund, died Nov. 22 2008 of brain cancer. She was 47. Born in Hawaii, Heather earned a bachelor’s degree in human biology from Stanford in 1984. She began working at Stanford 1998, running the fund that pays for scholarships, salaries, housing, capital expenditures and supplemental operating funds in the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation. Since her cancer diagnosis in May 2006, Heather spent time raising money for brain cancer research. She is survived by her husband, Gary, whom she met at Stanford; two daughters, Rachel now 20, and Kelly, now 18; her parents, the Rev. Norman and Dorothy Pfotenhauer; and four sisters, Vivian, Dorothy, Jane and Dawn. Reverand Norman G. Pfotenhauer has since passed away 3/1/2011 born on 4/16/1923.
