Hello! As we all know our Kansas nickname is The Sunflower State. But did you know? The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop in Olathe was the first eating station for westbound passengers on the Santa Fe Trail in 1863. Also the era of the great cattle drives ended when the Kansas Legislature, alarmed by the increase of the cattle disease called Texas Fever brought into the state by the Texas tick, passed legislation forbidding the importation of Texas cattle between March 1st and December 1st, the season for the long drives. The last Texas cattle drive to Dodge City was in 1885.
