Hello Everyone. Today, as we are all aware, is the anniversary of Pearl Harbor. I have been thinking about this all day...and wondering how (or if) I should even post anything about it. This is an emotionally charged subject, and not the sort of thing we normally would post about or discuss here in our group. We are a page devoted to nostalgia, romance and joy...we are a group devoted to remembering all that is beautiful about the 1930s and 1940s...we stand as a group in fond remembrance of all that was good in that vanished era...and yet we know that in reality, the times we wistfully remember here every day were not easy times... We, as a nation, survived through a terrible depression in the 1930s, and then we were almost immediately plunged into the horrors of World War II...and this war, as terrible a nightmare as it was, is not the sort of element of the era that I think we want to remember or discuss in a group called The Streamline Moderne Era...but on this day, December 7, 1941, on one of the most shocking and tragic days in American history, our country was ruthlessly attacked by the empire of Japan at Pearl Harbor, in the Hawaiian Islands. Rather than trying to get into a potentially combative political discussion about our governments mistakes leading up to the attack, or the perceptions of which version of history we as individuals choose to embrace about how and why this horrible event occurred, I think we can all agree that it is important to honor those that perished at Pearl Harbor on that fateful morning, and to honor all the men and women who sacrificed their lives in the globe consuming conflagration that followed. So, in a rare somber moment here in our group, let us honor and remember this fateful day in our history. In memoriam: December 7, 1941.
