Hello! For those who dont know me, Im Alexis from Bellevue High School and it was my honor to represent the Republic of India in G20 (YEAH GMUNey) last weekend. :) This post is about to be super long but I encourage you to read all! Although I was the only delegate from Bellevue and it was my first time ever attending a MUN conference, I had an incredible time last weekend at PACMUN2014 and it wouldnt have been possible without any of you guys. I was very impressed to meet so many inspiring and motivated peers coming from all over the Washington State in one place. So to return the favor, I want to introduce an organization to you all that became a huge part of me, which is JSA (Junior State of America)! Here’s a brief rundown of what JSA is all about; it’s a non-partisan (meaning we do not affiliate with any party), non-profit, student-run (in fact JSA is the LARGEST student run organization in the nation), and generally awesome organization devoted to the fight against political apathy, mostly amongst the youth. We have 3 main over night state conventions each year: Fall State, Winter Congress, and Spring State. I strongly believe that most issues we have today in this world are mainly caused by simple ignorance. JSA is a great place to start for you to find your voice to become an active member of the democratic society. Your voice matters. Very similar to MUN, you will be debating on numerous topics with your peers at the conventions. Since you were able to represent countries around the world, you should definitely try discovering and representing your OWN voice! *****If you want to try out JSA but yet unsure of joining on a state convention level, well LUCKY YOU we have a one-day chapter conference coming up next weekend on the December 6th at International School of Bellevue!!!!! This is the perfect chance for you to try out JSA on simpler level. This is a one-day conference that ANYONE can come and join on the day of the conference. No prior registration required (itll be very helpful for you to mark as going on the event page for an accurate head count if youll be attending)! If you still want to try but don’t have anyone to come with, again, don’t worry! I will be there for sure and many other people from PACMUN like Peter, Karthik, Hari, Daniel, and Eric will be there as well ☺ I can go on and on about JSA but I will end it here for now haha I really REALLY hope to see you guys again soon and it’ll be amazing to see you all at JSA conventions in addition to future MUN conventions!!!!!! JSA very much influenced who I am today and gave me endless opportunities to grow as an individual. If you love MUN, you’ll definitely love JSA. I guarantee!
