Hello Friends, Pastor Ayo Ajani begins a new series Recipe for an Effectual Prayer Life. Today he teaches How to Develop Your Personal Prayer Life. There are many ways to be successful, but only one way to be a lasting success. Prayer is a non-negotiable skill every believer must develop. It must become a lifestyle and not a just habit. The greatest thing that can happen to you is to develop your prayer life. Flies do not perch on hot objects; similarly, vultures are only attracted to dead bodies. What you attract is a product of your prayer life. The Bible says in Luke 18:1 and 1 Thessalonians 5:17 that “…men ought always to pray…” and “…without ceasing”. The norm for man should be to always pray. Not praying is abnormal. Prayer is communion with God; it is entering into the courtroom, sitting down in that place of power and deciding issues with God. There are no limitations in prayer. Why do you have to commit to developing a prayer life? i. Prayer is your means of fellowship with God. It’s your vital means of contact with God. ii. Prayer is your fortification and guarantee in times of trouble. iii. The only way you can fulfill God’s divine will for your life is by prayer. So how do you develop the prayer life? How do you become that person of prayer? It is possible with one knowledge: THAT YOU ARE UTTERLY USELESS WITHOUT GOD. (Psalms 127:1-2). A man who is not given to prayer is practically saying that they have it all figured out and do not need God. You have to repeat to yourself until it sinks in, that you’re completely useless without God. Jesus tells us in John 5:30 that He can do nothing except what the Father tells Him. Solomon understood that it is not effort, or skill, or anything you do that brings success (Ecclesiastes 9:11). Similar thoughts are written in Daniel 4:32, 35. And the Bible further says in Romans 9:16 that it is not by your will or actions, but by the mercy of God. Building a prayer life is predicated on the understanding that even when you plant and water, it is the Lord that brings increase (1 Corinthians 3:6). Once you begin measuring your ability to success by your skills and talents, you start losing dependence on God. In order to build a prayer life, you must first cultivate a prayer habit. Order is the foundation that guarantees success in a prayer life. The foundation to praying effectively is mediation on Scriptures. When you begin meditating on Scriptures, eventually you’ll be given to prayer. The richest way to pray is to start out in the Word. Make a commitment to commune with God in prayer at a certain time and for a certain period every day. Make the commitment today and write it down, noting the date.
