Hello , I am Kay Tee ... Ive been a ember here for a while, but just lurked...until today when I gave my input on Muriel Stegerss post. I have been in a lot of artists shoes where you study the works of so many artists you admire...and you find yourself consciously or unconsciously adapting their styles. As a student, its how you learn..and as you grow as an artist it begins to be confining...and then you find yourself putting your own touches...going your own way ... and then it hits you - or at least it did me - that my own style is developing - and I go with it. Something that helped me to transition from copying others works - especially when it came to faces - was to take my doodles and turn them into stencils - using transparencies...or carving them onto stamps. What I found, at least for me, was yes - I certainly did have a style ...and I look back at my earlier stamps and drawings, and while they are different - I still see the same line of style - my style. Muriel, I look forward to watching you grow as an artist - its inspiring. Here is some things that I have painted using stamp carvings of my doodles. All the faces you see on the covers are from my carvings.
