Hello #Limerick people. As youve probably noticed, Im frequently bowled over by the efforts made by talented people involved in the arts locally. We have more of those people than youd imagine for a small city and they deserve some decent support. So with that in mind, Ive been amused by the consistently late arrival of the quarterly Limerick City of Culture guides. I like to go to things when I can, you see. I know that other people like to go to things too because when I turn up to plays, exhibitions, music & dance events and other activities in which people have invested time, effort, money and talent, I see other people there. There are some really good events which people deserve to see. So youd think that after almost a year of practice, the City of Culture guide for October-December would already be in my grubby hands. Its October 4 now, after all. If you too like to make the effort to leaf through the quarterly event guide, youll be aware that the previous three were hilariously late, exasperatingly late and plain late but in my innocence I would have thought that just for once I wouldnt have to ignore the first twenty pages listing events that happened before the preview guide came out. Alas, no. Ive been told by email that its at the printers and verbally that the information is still being compiled. For October to December. In October. Yes, I know theres a webpage. Not the point. Lets put it this way: if you, talented local artist that you may be, are putting on an event this week or next week or probably the week after, youd better hope that all of your prospective audience uses the Internet. The optimum time to release the October to December event guide is the start of September. That gives people time to distribute it where people will pick it up, allowing them to get it, forget it, find it, have a look at it, pick events and organise their time so that they can go. Thats assuming that you want people to go. I can completely understand printed promo materials being late - my relationship with scheduling and time is a little comical. I recommend things to people with twenty minutes notice all the time. But I dont have a six million euro budget. You could at least get it out before the start of October. Its not a one-off printing disaster - theyve all been frigging late. Numpties. Seriously. tl;dr: The Limerick CoC events guide is late. Again. Fourth time. And theres apparently no firm delivery date so youll (yet again) be getting recommendations for things that are over by the time you read it. #limerickcityofculture
