Hello NCNCA, The Memorial Day Holiday weekend brings some - TopicsExpress

Hello NCNCA, The Memorial Day Holiday weekend brings some outstanding racing opportunities for the NCNCAs regional racers... All racing information can be found at- ncnca.org/ Saturday there is the Sierra Nevada/Bicycles Plus Folsom Criterium & the Salinas Valley Criterium hosted by Pedali Alpini. Both events are sure to deliver extra exciting racing action for competitors and race fans alike. Sunday is one of the NCNCAs most epic and legendary races, the Mt. Hamilton Road Race hosted by San Jose Bike Club. This event is part of the BikeReg Premier Series. It was used as the District Road Race Championship last season and has hosted numerous days of racing on its slopes for the Tour of California over the past few years. The San Jose Bike Club does an amazing job in hosting this classic Road Race that boasts some of the best cycling sections in all of Nor-Cal. The best of class always rise to the occasion at this event and race winners year after year are some of the most fit and skilled cyclists the NCNCA has to offer. The San Jose Bike Club will also be hosting the Memorial Day Criterium on Monday in Morgan Hill. I hope everyone has a very enjoyable 3 day holiday weekend! The BikeReg Premier Series points have been updated and are current here- ncnca.org/sites/default/files/internal/series/Premier-pts2014.pdf The NCNCA BAR/BAT Points Series is updated and current and can be viewed here- ncnca.org/sites/default/files/internal/points/index.html I would like to first thank Ken Hernandez who has complied points for both of these series over the past 14 years. Ken has spent countless hours volunteering for the NCNCA and this has been a huge benefit to our region. This year Richard Brockie of OnTheDay.net- ontheday.net/ has taken over the results coordinator position, in which following Ken Hernandezs footsteps is not a easy role to take on! However after dialing in some inconsistencies with the USAC database Richard now has been able to post the BikeReg Premier Series & the NCNCA BAR/BAT Points Series totals. This also includes the NCNCA Spring Series Points competition, which end after this weekends racing, for the Women Cat. 4, Women Cat. 3, Men Cat. 3, Men Cat. 4, Men Masters 35+ Cat. 4 and Men Masters 45+ Cat. 4 fields. This Sunday at the Mt. Hamilton Road Race starts a key section of races in the BikeReg Premier Series. The competition is near the half way point and in the Mens P 1/2 group it is shaping up to be a serious duel between two of the NCNCAs strongest teams- Mikes Bikes p/b Equator Coffee & Marc Pro - Strava. For the individual competition Roman Kilun(Mikes Bikes p/b Equator Coffee) is the current points leader with Marc Pro - Stravas Maxim Jenkins ranked second. These two racers are super deserving of their current ranking however there are still 13 races left where so much is still left to be decided out on the roads. Mikes Bikes p/b Equator Coffee & Marc Pro - Strava racers lay claim to the top 6 spots in the Mens P 1/2 BikeReg rankings so far, the next in the pace line behind Kilun & Jenkins are Justin Rossi(Marc Pro - Strava), James LaBerge(Mikes Bikes p/b Equator Coffee), Adam Switters(Mikes Bikes p/b Equator Coffee) and Christopher Harland Dunaway(Marc Pro - Strava). The Womens P 1/2 BikeReg Premier Series is equally close in scoring as the Mens division. Currently the series leader is Joanna Dahl(Metromint Cycling). Dahl has scored two stellar victories on the schedule, The Chico Stage Race & Berkeley Hills Road Race. Chasing Dahls lead is Beth Newell(Jakroo Racing) who claimed dominate victories at the Wente Road Race and the Cats Hill Classic. As in years past, the Womens P 1/2 division of the BikeReg Premier Series will most likely go down to the final event of the series and should be a photo finish for who claims high honors overall. There is a powerful group of riders who are next in rankings and have scored over 20 points. They are Diane Moug(Folsom Bike/Cervelo), Alessandra Sales(Velo Sports Group), Leah Thomas(Metromint Cycling), Jane Despas(ICE Sportswear p/b Pinnacle Racing), Dana Martin(Team Mikes Bikes p/b Equator Coffee) and Alison Tetrick(TWENTY16 Pro Cycling). All the Women P 1/2 racers listed above are true stars of Cycle Sport and the rest of the racing season should make for great drama to decide best of class. The BikeReg overall team competition for the Mens P 1/2 field reflects the domination of Marc Pro - Strava & Mikes Bikes p/b Equator. These two dominate teams of the NCNCA are virtually locked even in points and there is a good chance that the winner of the large cash payout for the team competition will be decided on the final day of the series. The BikeReg Womens P 1/2 top 5 teams at press time are Metromint Cycling, Folsom Bike/Cervelo, Velo Sports Group, JAKROO Racing Team and Team Mikes Bikes p/b Equator Coffees. The top 3 Masters Men 35+ 1/2/3 & Masters Men 45+ 1/2/3 in the BikeReg Premier Series standings to date are... 35+ 1/2/3 1- Jeromy Cottell(Specialized / Touchstone)- 66 2- Joshua Dapice(Audi)- 53 3- Andres Gil(Michael David Winery Cycling)- 42 45+ 1/2/3 1- Dirk Himley(Hammer/Charity of Choice)- 85 2- Oddvare Kaarboe(ThirstyBearCycling)- 47 3- Scott Fonseca(Team BP/Sierra Nevada/Reliable The NCNCA BAR/BAT Points Series totals are compiled and this is just in time for the completion of the Spring Series groups. These divisions have one last weekend to compete and possibly change the standings as they are today. The NCNCA BAR BAT Points Series Spring groups are- Women Cat. 4, Women Cat. 3, Men Cat. 3, Men Cat. 4, Men Masters 35+ Cat. 4 and Men Masters 45+ Cat. 4. The winners of these groups will be awarded a trophy for their great racing accomplishments at the end of season NCNCA Awards Banquet. Top finishers in these divisions are encouraged to please upgrade to the next category level as they have proved their worth, skill and cycling talent level for an upgrade. Many of the Spring BAR/BAT Points Series divisions are extremely close in ranking. There is a great chance for placings to change this final weekend of racing, so I do encourage all to get out there and compete over the Memorial Day Weekend of racing. Here are the Spring Division top 3 leaders currently in all groups- Women Cat. 3- 77 Women ranked Aliya Traficante- 103 Stepahnie Hines(Metromint Cycling)- 102 Leah Thomas(Metromint Cycling)- 102 Women Cat. 4- 104 Women ranked Cynthia Wang(Team Fremont FFBC p/b Chipotle)- 103 Kieran Devere(Integrity Racing p/b Integrity Roofing)- 97 Lacey Payne(Integrity Racing p/b Integrity Roofing)- 94 Men Cat. 3 - 180 Men ranked Raul Arias Jr.(Threshold Sprts/ Leadout Endurance Coaching)- 121 Tony Wolf(Integrity Racing p/b Integrity Roofing)- 104 Andrew Shimizu(Data Driven Athlete Racing)- 99 Men Cat. 4- 222 Men ranked Darin Morgan(Michael David Winery Cycling Team)- 121 Porter Wesson(Bear Development Team)- 110 Edward Kronfli(TIME- Velo Pasadena Team)- 103 Masters Men 35+ Cat. 4- 172 Men ranked Rich Gellert(Spokesman Bicycles)- 103 Ben French(Topsport)- 95 Richard Hufford(Victory Velo Racing)- 90 Masters Men 45+ Cat. 4- 128 Men ranked Stephen Mason(SJBC)- 104 Peter Gemell(Body Concepts)- 83 John Ensign(Folsom Bike/VW/Raleys) Again, thank you to Ken Hernandez for the many years of scoring the NCNCA BAR/BAT points Series. There are an incredible amount of teams and riders who earn points in this season long competition and I speak for all racers from the NCNCA in thanking you for setting up this great asset to the NCNCA racing in general. Also thank you to Richard Brockie for pulling through & driving the pace in the future after Kens long turn on the front of being the NCNCA Results Coordinator. There is also a great battle taking shape in the Overall Team Competition in the BAR/BAT for the entire NCNCA. Like all the divisions of the BAR/BAT there is a long history on the rankings of past winners. To win a title in the Individual or Team BAR/BAT is very prestigious as that distinguishes the most successful riders and teams of the year! In the past history of the Overall Team Competition the division was initially dominated and owned by Webcor/Alto Velo. That team won the competition for 8 straight years! Then in 2009 the Davis Bike Club claimed top honors as they put together an incredible season of racing. In 2010, 2011 & 2012 The San Jose Bike Club reigned supreme as the top race team in the NCNCA. Last year it was Team Bicycle Plus/Sierra Nevada who broke through into the top spot of the power rankings for NCNCAs top team/club. This year looks to be the very best overall team competition ever! The current standings are here- ncnca.org/sites/default/files/internal/points/Team-points14.html. There is quite the tight race going on to be the best overall team in the NCNCA. Current top 5- iRT Reactor p/ JL Velo- 1995 Metromint Cycling- 1958 Team Mikes Bikes p/b Equator Coffee- 1610 Folsom Bike/VW/Raleys- 1449 Squadra SF- 1363 Thank you to all the racers, clubs, teams and coaches who do their part in making the NCNCA the very best region in USA for Bicycle Racing! Sincerely, Keith DeFiebre Vice President- Northern California & Nevada Cycling Association
