Hello Ramsdenites, I asked to join your group after spending an enjoyable evening last week reading all the nostalgic posts on there. I never actually lived on the estate, but lived in Avalon Road from 1973-1988. I joined Blenheim Infants in 1973, went to the Juniors 1974-1977, Ramsden Boys 1977-1982 and the joint sixth form 1982-1984. In the mid seventies me and friends used to go out on bikes and ride round the estate and play in the playgrounds etc. I had a crappy little bike with no gears, that kept getting punctures and I wanted to get a Raleigh Chopper (with the flashy gearknob) like one of my mates. I rode his Chopper once or twice and I pretended I was driving a Ford Granada. I also remember buying a bag of chips for 10p in Eldred Drive and eating them in the smelly playground tunnel. I remember all the names of all the flats (the black and white Courts were named after rivers,e.g. Medway Court, Stour Court, and the brown brick Houses were named after small Kentish towns e.g. Peckham House, Lenham House) And I loved the sandy coloured towers. At the time, I kind of wished that I did live in one of those flats. They seemed so cool. In Blenheim Juniors, I was in Mrs Rickards class (she was Canadian) then I had Miss Andrews, Miss Linskey, and Miss Pinnington And Mr Colwill was the excellent Headmaster who took us on a trip to Snowdonia in 1977 in our final year. I remember playing Four Square, and the little indoor swimming pool (getting those little coloured flashes) and the wonky bicycle that used to come out on Sports Day. Ive seen several names on your posts who I recognise, like Martin Turner and Robin Manuel - werent you in my Blenheim class and didnt you live down the end of Eldred Drive? Do you remember Anthony Gibbins, Steven Smith, Paul Simpson and Carsten Stokvis (all from that class) who used to ride their bikes with us round Ramsden ? Donna Odey, I remember your name from my Blenheim class. Tony Wickenden I remember your name. Philip Sewell wasnt in my Blenheim class, but he was in My Ramsden Boys class. Remember Noel Vengan and Earl Smith were good footballers - in the Ramsden Boys school team. I was always a bit of a dark horse, but if anyone remembers me, give us a shout All the best Alan
