Hello. Since my visit to Weymouth I have been working on some research I started.Having found old photos of the Hawkes family and their businesses,my sister gave me a copy of our family tree. This started an historic hunt for me. Whilst in Weymouth I walked around buildings familiar to me and photographed what I thought would be worthy of posting on Facebook. I hope this will bring up further information but also give the expats plus residents in Weymouth a bit of pleasure. The first photo is a part of the family tree pertaining to our family now.The second photo is of our Great grandfather Joseph Hawkes and his wife Louisa nee Drayton. 3is a photo of my Grand father, Leonard hawkes 4is a photo of our Great Uncle RobertWilliam Hawkes, front row 2nd left&Joseph Hawkes back row3rd from right ,with other members of the Freemasons of Weymouth.this next photo is of the Freemasons Hall still standing on Frederick Place.this next photo is of our Great Uncle Robert William & Great Grand father Joseph At the ceremony for placing of the corner stone of the Baptist Church, still standing behind the Alexanda gardens.this photo is of the family business of which all brothers and Joseph were directors,ie handed down from father to son. Hawkes and Freeman ltd was a complete home furnishes to be found then on St Thomas St no 39.today it is a coffee shop and darts and gift shop.situatednext to the Pound Shop. The family business also combined a funeral parlour service.this photo is of Joseph conducting military funeral traveling over the old Westham bridge to Malcolm Regis Cemetary. Because I am not sure how all this looks I am going to post this and add more photos after.
