Hello all! I want to let you know about a talk on Adam Smith, F.A. Hayek, Ludwig von Mises by Dr. Walter Block on Monday, November 10, 7:30pm at 702 Hamilton Hall, Columbia University (entrance at 116th and Broadway or Amsterdam). Smith, Hayek and Mises are not only important figures in economics, but in ethics and political philosophy too. The former would have won the Nobel Prize in economics, if this award were given during his lifetime. The middle mentioned one actually did have this honor bestowed upon him, in 1974. The latter, should have won this too, but, scandalously, did not. These three are very important for students in that modern economics courses, and economists, tend to ignore all of them, particularly the latter two, who were members of the Austrian School of economics. Blocks lecture will attempt to right this imbalance. Walter Block earned his Ph.D. in Economics at Columbia University. He is an author, editor, and co-editor of many books which include Defending the Undefendable; Lexicon of Economic Thought, Economic Freedom of the World 1975-1995; Rent Control: Myths and Realities; Discrimination, Affirmative Action, and Equal Opportunity; Theology, Third Word Development and Economic Justice; Man, Economy, and Liberty: Essays in Honor of Murray N. Rothbard; Religion, Economics, and Social Thought; and Economic Freedom: Toward a Theory of Measurement. Dr. Block has written almost 500 articles for various refereed journals and thousands of essays for magazines and newspapers, and is a contributor to such journals as The Review of Austrian Economics, Journal of Libertarian Studies, The Journal of Labor Economics, Cultural Dynamics, and the Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics. He is the author of 21 books and is currently a professor and chair of economics, College of Business Administration, at Loyola University, New Orleans.
