Hello all. Im Élan; originally from Chicago, and now residing in the Appalachian mountains after a brief stint overseas. Ive done various projects with people in this group (Val, Jon Rosenthal, Alyssa, et al as Primal Collective), and I am mostly known for my mainstay project, Old Forgotten Lands. I have also meddled quite a bit in the metal circuits, but unplugged, roots-influenced music seems to be what draws out the most interest in me. Whether I want to pay homage to the history and cultural exchanges of the vast world, or chant homage to the skies and soil, I feel the concept of neofolk to me is a return to a sound of timelessness and reverence. I am currently undertaking a project in which I am utilizing a queue of Eastern instruments to carve out a concept album, but I felt I would share something else with you. This would be Moonlore, and it is one of the first times I have ever had a somewhat structured group effort to work toward the goal of my aforementioned idea of what neofolk is. A bit more ambient than Death-in-June, this project primarily features an Appalachian dulcimer tuned to a custom sound. Varying in influence, yet with its own sound, this is the best way I have found yet to manifest my ideas, with the help of others who are truly kindred spirits. Slainte!
