Hello me hearties!! Im all yours!! On this wet and warmer evening, I have arrived at Honningsvag..a mere hour and a half from ...Nordkapp!! A different day today, equally challenging!! Leaving Skaidi, buoyed up and a bit too warm (the joys of swapping gas bottles!!), we had some miles to lap up!! And on alot of ice!! I am the converted..studs are great!! As sure footed as a mountain goat..try them on your shoes!! At long last, my departure from the E6..and into the E69..northwards!! And it got darker and darker, with heavy skies.. The landscape bleaker and barren..not a tree in sight! My mood descended into gloom and disappointment..I was so looking forward to this part of the journey. Thankfully not so much ice, an all but empty road, just the sea, the mountains and a dirty road..dig deep Matheson, they say the last leg is the hardest..!! Not as windy but still penetrating..oh my hands!! One passing white tailed fox and a sea eagle for company..I must have seen no more than 20 passing cars in 70 miles.. Im sure this is a beautiful route in better weather..still, we were ploughing on.. And then, a huge blue lorry, my side of the road, heading straight for me!! Id already stopped for a quick photo..and to my relief, it came to stop, just feet from me!! Even better, it was Stein, given advance notice by Ole, that I was coming..the snowplough driver if the road needed clearing! My welcoming party!! A quick chat, handshakes, and on I went, with the promise of a hot shower on my arrival..!! Two long and steep tunnels done (10kms in total!), and wed arrived..safe and tired. The shower was great, thank you, Stein and your father Aurel..human again!! A meal of fried halibut in the caravan..(delicious!).. Will the rain be turning into snow?? Parked up by another petrol station..seems the way to go as all the caravan sites are now closed..who in their right mind would come up here in a caravan, let alone on an old tractor at this time of year??!! Last but not least, well done and congratulations to the Tom Bowdidge event at Sainsburys, Colchester..looks a great success..! Dram time!!
