Help a Mom Out: She writes: We are in Virginia. I have an IEP review at 8:00am. My son was recently diagnosed with Bi-Polar disorder (He also has Anxiety Disorder, OCD, ADHD, ODD, Reading Disorder. He’s in the 4th grade (9yo). He does not have any behavioral problems at school. His IEP is for academic only. His IEP is for reading and speech. His grades suffer (D’s & F’s). He tells me that he’s scared to ask questions and if he does the teacher tells him to “sit down I’ve already when over this.” He told the teacher, at the parent teacher conference, that he was “anxious and felt sick to his tummy” the teacher told him and I’m quoting “BULL, you are not putting in enough effort.” What do I have to say, scream, write, print, so I can get my child help through the school system? His doctor has recommended TDT. The school is not willing to help him with his mental illness, how do I advocate for him?
