Here are the answers to 21 of the questions that people have asked me..Enjoy!! 1) People have been calling me Jiffy since the year 2002. One of my high school professors gave me the nickname because I solved a math problem in a jiffy…lol 2) I was born in South Carolina (I assume that’s where my accent came from) 3) I was raised in Florida and attended elementary, middle, and high school in Tampa Bay, Florida 4) I have 9 tattoos (all visible except for the one on the inside of my lip) and yes they all have meaning behind them. 5) I am 50% Puerto Rican, 30% German, and pretty sure that the other 20% is crazy! That still remains to be determined.. 6) I am a college graduate. I actually have two degrees. Even though an Associates degree is no longer valued I am proud of my completion at College of the Canyons in Valencia, California and of my Bachelors from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas (both in Psychology) 7) I began boxing in 2009 for the city of Santa Clarita in California because I wanted to lose weight (I was about 145lbs). 8) I not only fought for the college boxing team at Texas Southern University, I pioneered the competing team and served as the CEO, President, and face of the team throughout my college education. 9) I fight primarily at 106lbs but I have fought up to 114lbs in a few bouts. 10) I am an open fighter, meaning I have more than 10 bouts and have fought girls with a wide range of experience. 11) I was one of the first women to fight in the Regional college boxing tournament in the NCBA and the USIBA Nationals where women were granted the opportunity to debut in the first nationals with women’s competition. 12) My favorite boxer is Christi Martin (she put women’s boxing on the map and she fought like a dude!!) 13) I don’t care what anyone says, I am always nervous before a spar and a fight no matter who I am in the ring with, but like most people, when the bell rings and after the first punch is thrown I’m all in! 14) I engage in mental training twice as much as I do in physical training. I live by ‘zone in and zone out’. 15) I am fighting towards the Olympics, my goal of course is to make it and win gold. I have two more shots to do so and if for some reason that doesn’t happen, the back up plan is to turn pro and put my stamp in women’s boxing in a similar and better fashion than those before me. 16) I am my own motivation, my own ‘why’, I am the reason for pushing forward. No one does any of the training and preparation for me. I am my own best and worst friend and critic. 17) I listen to a variety of music while training. Which is a step up because a month ago I was completely against listening to music while training because I enjoy hearing my own thoughts. Turns out I am harder on myself than I could see and music helps me relax. 18) Until recently I did not understand a lot about boxing or even why I was moving certain ways or even how to set up punches and sticking to a strategy. But we will do what we want to and I want to be the best so I opened my eyes, ears, and brain and let me tell you I can’t be stopped!! 19) I watch as many Friday night fights and other major and minor fights that I can. I study, watch, observe, and talk about it with as many people as I can. 20) I train in Houston in the Heights area at Slava Boxing and Steve ‘Slava’ Kozakov is my coach. I love my coach, I love our team, and I love training at our gym. It is all work and no nonsense and although my coach calls me Princess he treats me like one of the guys and I appreciate that. 21) I can take any kind of talk from anyone. I listen to it all and apply what is necessary. I believe that we can learn what to do and what not to do from anyone.
