Here are two firsts for this girl!! Not only did I fly on a regular plane (3x3) We got to travel on a big plane when we flew from Toronto to Rome! It sat 2-4-2. Then when we flew from Rome to Split, Croatia, we flew on a tiny plane that only sat 2-2. Both planes Ive always wanted to fly on. Now for the bad news; Alitalia lost both mine and Brynns luggage on our flight from Toronto to Rome. They have located Brynns, but they have not yet located mine. Nicole had her luggage delivered on time. On the second flight to Croatia we thought we would be able to carry-on our backpacks so nothing would happen to our luggage again, but we had to check them because the plane was so small. Luckily we got out of there with all of our belongings! So anyways, after standing in line at the baggage claim for 2.5 hours we finally made our way to the train station to head to Cortona. We tried several train places and no one even knew where Cortona was. Finally, we met a shuttle driver who knew where Cortona was, but wanted 450 Euros to take us there. Ha! So we left and he seen there was only 3 of us so he caught up and told us because there was only 3 of us he would give us a deal... 390 Euros. Ha again! So we were finally pointed in the direction of a train station that would know where the hell we were going. After a bit of confusion we were hooked up with the right train tickets going to the right station. The trouble, however, is that we had a transfer and there was nothing on the ticket or the timetable at the next station that told us what train to get onto to get to Cortona. So we asked and ran around then asked some one else and ran some more, finally we got a definite answer from the customer service desk (that took almost an hour to get through the line). Turns out the next available train to our destination wasnt for another 2 hours (after the hour that we had already wasted). So we hop on this train, an its now 8:00pm with a 2.5 hour train ride to Cortona. Its dark by this point and getting darker by the minute. By the time we arrived in Cortona it was pitch black and we didnt have a clue where we were going. We looked around dumbfounded for a few minutes then finally some security guards drove up and asked if we needed any help. We asked them to call us a taxi, but there are no real taxi services in Cortona, just people who call themselves taxis and use their personal cars to transport. So the guards called several people and because it was almost 11 at this point, no one would come to pick us up. Its almost been a half an hour of waiting and not knowing how we were going to get to our hostel (the guards said its about 4-5km straight uphill). Someone finally agreed to come pick us up and let me tell you, there is no freaking way that we could have found this hostel, day or night, without someone taking us there. There were twists and turns and sideroads and backroads and roads I didnt think this car would fit in. We finally make it to our hostel, meet our host, Sergio (who is amazing btw). The wifi at the hostel is weak on the top floors, which is where we stayed (an amazing view). So I didnt get a chance to post anything, besides it was already 11:30 by the time we were ready to get ready for bed. This morning we woke up expecting to meet Sergio to deliver the keys for the hostel and we would take the same taxi back to the train station (he said he would come back for us). But the taxi never showed up, and we dont have a working phone, so we had to search for a telephone to use and we finally found one and he finally came to pick us up. We made it to the train station and began looking at train times to make it to Rome for our train at 6 pm. But none of the trains get us there early enough. We had missed the only train that would have gotten us there before 5pm. So we were pretty much screwed. We ended up taking a taxi, who had to cancel his whole day, to the airport 2.5 hours away. It cost us 250 Euros. Ouch! But we made it on time though!! From then, everything has been pretty smooth, we got our luggage after the plane, we took a bus from the airport to the main bus station in Split, then took a taxi to our hotel. And it has turned out to be quite a nice place so far! Well thats been my journey so far! I have learned MANY things in this short time and so I hope that everything goes more smoothly from now on!! Zbogom from Split! Ill post more photos later! Its finally time for food! (10:45 pm)
