Here is an interesting article on the re-development project at Granite Run Mall... Granite Run Mall developers describe project’s timetable Rebirth of the troubled Granite Run Mall will occur over a period of several years, assuming plans for a walkable, upscale town center development are approved as presented by new owner/developer BET Investments of Horsham. Project attorney Joseph Riper said redevelopment will take place in two phases. The first will include demolishing the mall interior, with the existing anchor stores — Boscov’s, JCPenney and Sears — remaining. During this phase, the first of two luxury apartment buildings proposed for the 58-acre site would be constructed on the former ChiChi’s Restaurant property fronting Route 352. Riper estimates this first phase would take at least two years to complete. The second phase will include demolishing the existing movie theater and constructing the second apartment building on the Oriole Avenue side of the mall property, along with other retail buildings. Oriole Avenue residents are concerned about the proposed redevelopment’s impact on their neighborhood. In response to those concerns, Riper said his client wants to bring the township’s storm water management ordinance in compliance with the county model. Responding, township Solicitor Joseph A. Damico noted that the Middletown ordinance will be modified. Because of these unresolved issues, council voted to table further discussion until their Dec. 8 meeting. Source: Daily Times; 12/1/2014
