Here is my commentary on this demeaning, disrespectful, misleading meme I saw on my news feed this morning. The children who are brought or sent here are as innocent as the children who were born here; none of them asked to come here and all of them deserve to be treated as our own. If their families werent so desperate to escape the crushing poverty, war, and other social ills in their countries, they would have kept their children there. I also dont like the term illegal used with regards to human beings, children or otherwise. People are not illegal. That is a disrespectful way to refer to our fellow human beings. I agree America needs to do far more to cure homelessness, hunger and poverty at home. We can start by demanding corporations pay their fair share of taxes--there is no reason a multi-billion dollar company should have a tax bill far less than that of the average working-class citizen--and reconsidering the lifetime benefits of people who have served in congress, most of whom are already wealthy. Whatever we spend on homelessness, poverty, and hunger here and abroad is small enough to be laughable compared to the money we are losing on those things.
