Here is one more review....detailed one from my friend MARIYAN MOVIE REVIEW : To begin with read the title as MariYAWN. The meaning of the Heroes name is Immortal, the one who lives forever. This bore of a film also seems to go on forever. Enough and more has been said about Dhanush’s acting skills but if you notice closely, you will find some Rajnikanth imitations happening in certain scenes as far as some expressions are concerned. Parvathi Menon yells and weeps well, basically that’s all she has to do. Uma Riyaz Khan’s transformation to an old lady is admirable but her total longevity in this film is ample proof of her spending more time in the makeup room than in front of the camera. A couple of A R Rahman’s tunes are hummable and Nenje Ezhu stands out but all of them crash due to unimaginative picturisation. The sudden fixation of Tamil film makers towards Fishermen and the sea have produced many dead ducks at the Box Office, the recent one being Mani Ratnam’s Kadal. Well, this one also follows the pattern of recounting a life of a Fisherman who is useless for most of the time and is pendulum riding on I Love Her, I Love Her Not. She on the other hand is clearly I Love Only Him. After wasting one hour of your life, the Director decides Both Love Each Other. Then what? Well, The Director notices that since the pattern worked, now he is going to waste the remaining One Hour odd of your lives as well. And that’s exactly what he does by introducing a bunch of Black useless chaps, this time in Sudan, Africa, during the Interval Black, er Block. 300 Bucks worth of Snacks might see you through after Interval. Avoid the Night show cause you can’t even get out and go shopping in the Mall cause all the shops close by then. Of course if you came by bike and it’s raining heavily outside then you can’t go home. So you might as well stay put. Don’t blame the sound system of the theater, it isn’t jarring. It’s just your neighbor snoring. MARIYAN, 3/10. 1 because I am a Dhanush Fan and 1 more because I still get Goospimples when I see Director Bharat Bala’s Vande Mataram Video and that’s why I can’t give him a Zero. And the third 1 is because of Nenje Ezhu which has been on repeat mode on my iPod for the last 2 weeks and continues being there inspite of watching this film. This was one film I wanted to See but ended up Lost at Sea. ------------------ NABARUN GHOSH
