Here is the wow gift Keith gave me for Christmas. Its a Hungarian - TopicsExpress

Here is the wow gift Keith gave me for Christmas. Its a Hungarian citera. Citera means zither in Hungarian, and as you can see, ours has a diatonic fretboard. Apparently modern citeras usually have chromatic fretboards. The second course of strings on our citera adds the missing notes. The additional courses are drones and for added melodic accents. From the videos Ive watched I gather that citeras were traditionally played with a long noter. All of the melody strings are tuned to the same key like a Galax dulcimer--G in our case, since our citera is a soprano model. So, basically, instead of a doubled melody string, it has quadrupled melody strings. Its certainly going to be a challenge to play! Im also really curious to hear how it sounds bowed. I havent tuned it up yet, but this is going to be fun! :)
