Here we have Sierra.ie-Support Services Group a company belonging to the Siteserve Group of companies belonging to Denis OBrien. And as I would presume you already know Denis owns a very large proportion of Irelands media. But now this Sierra Support Services Group has UPC and Sky as their Irish costumers. So not only does Denis own lots (too much) of the Irish media he is now running the servicing contracts in Ireland for both UPC and Sky who are two of the biggest providers of satellite TV in Ireland. Bet they get their Diesal in Topaz. Wild Guess I truly dont be-grudge any wealthy person making a good living but like with Rupert Murdock in the UK and his ownership of Sky and many other news organisations over there. There is a point when you have to call a halt, in particular when it comes to the free press. Especially when one mans ownership becomes so big that it threatens democracy itself, which proved to be the case in the UK with Murdock, with all party politicians paying homage to the Baron of Fleet Street. The Leveson Inquiry was set up when one of Murdocks newspapers the News of the World went to far in searching out its headlines. Murdock had his wings more than clipped with multiple court payouts but some of Levesons findings would be welcomed by Irish people if introduced here. It recommended that legislation be introduced placing a legal duty on the Government to protect the Freedom of the Press. It also stated in its report that Politicians and the press had come to close. Some of what Leveson found to be the case in the UK is now, in reality the case in Ireland. If the Irish Government had a legal duty to protect the Freedom of the Press would they allow one man Denis OBrien to own so much of it? And would Leveson say that Irish politicians are much too close to the press, in particular the way Denis OBrien has such close links with Fine Gael? I would say that both answers to the above questions would be yes. With that being the case and with the Irish Government unlikely to take any action to defend a Free Press here in Ireland it is left to the Irish people to take their own form of action in the way of a Boycott of all Denis OBriens companies particularly in the media where he has an unhealthy dominant influence over the free press in Ireland.
