Heres a ginormous building, ready to be developed. Meanwhile, like in many other countries (referring to the developed world here), lots of Americans are (I believe) suffering homelessness and stupidly high costs involved with wherever they live: couldnt they just turn something like this into a large scale, low-cost, apartment building where the empty shops are turned into temporary or permanent apartments, fitted with walls at the front and so forth? This seems like pretty straight forward mathematics to me: empty mall, with lots of empty shops + redevelopment (with a pricetag no doubt less than constructing whole new apartment buildings) + people who need somewhere to live = less unhappy people in a troubled economy.
