Heres a pretty good match thats also interesting beyond the in-ring action. Two extra, non-action, takeaways from this match - First, you have Eduoard Carpentier announced as the Worlds Heavyweight Wrestling Champion as recognized by the NWA and Verne Gagne announced as the US Heavyweight Champion as recognized by the NWA. Second, you have Verne Gagne being announced as new Worlds Heavyweight Champ at the end. The first thing that comes to mind is that maybe the ruling didnt hold because the finish was controversial and Vernes win was taken away. The next thing to consider is that they didnt actually hold these titles at the same time and Chicago was probably recognizing their own Worlds Heavyweight Champion as recognized by the NWA instead of recognizing the actual Worlds Heavyweight Champion that was recognized by the NWA, who at this time was probably Dick Hutton. If thats the case and following those rules, then maybe Verne Gagne was recognized as the NWA Champion IN CHICAGO after this match for a period of time...or maybe the decision was overturned. The match is actually pretty enjoyable. Check it out.
