Heres a rant, not directed at anyone in particular (seriously), - TopicsExpress

Heres a rant, not directed at anyone in particular (seriously), but something I hear fairly often and thought Id share - Ever notice how people will claim to have been making knives or blacksmithing for 10 or 15 years, yet ask absolutely elementary questions or produce extremely rough work? Finished pieces that look like a first ever attempt at forging... When I think about what my work will look like with another 10-20 years of experience, I have extremely high expectations. I am proud of what Ive been able to do with only 3-4 years of tinkering around. If youre new to the craft, embrace your newness and have a sense of humility. It gives you a great reason to ask questions. This is a learning craft that takes a lifetime to master. Dont pretend youve been blacksmithing your entire life because you bent a nail into a U shape once as a teenager. It doesnt work to your advantage, and if anything it makes you look silly for making such a claim of experience and immediately showing a lack of knowledge. /rant
